Optometric Technician / Dry Eye Technician

Summary
The Optometric Dry Eye Technician works with the Optometrist and office staff to ensure a positive appointment experience for every patient. The experience starts from the moment the appointment is made, and ensures that the patient understands all aspects of what to expect before, during, and after the appointments. The technician will assist the Optometrist during exams in acquiring history and preparing for the appointment, performing diagnostic testing, scribing during the exam, patient education after the exam and in follow up, and in explaining treatment options including pricing and scheduling of appointments.
In addition, in office treatment procedures including, but not limited to, Intense Pulsed Light, Radiofrequency, and Microexfoliation procedures will be performed by the technician.
A strong background in customer service, sales, and medical assisting is encouraged.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Scheduling consults
- Collecting medical history
- Collecting necessary consents
- Assisting Optometrist in chart documentation
- Educating patients on treatment options and home therapies
- Reviewing treatment package options with patients including pricing
- Performing in office procedures such as Zest debridement, IPL, RF
- Follow up post treatment
- Follow up with patient on prescribed prescriptions/home therapies
Patient Care and Appointments
- Greet patients and ensure they are moved through their appointment in a friendly and efficient manner
- Conduct all patient pre-testing and documentation, and any special testing requested by the doctor
- Assist the doctor in the patient appointment by scribing or other assigned tasks
- Educating patients at the conclusion of their exam regarding prescribed treatments.
Communication:
- Communicate with the doctor, office staff and patients to ensure appointments are conducted efficiently and patients have a positive experience
- Answer staff and patient questions regarding treatment, specifically dry eye
- Call patients who require follow up visits
- Review and follow up on office emails/texts/calls in a timely manner
Administration:
- Collect all necessary dry eye data and consents
- Assist in other areas of the office as needed, including answering phones, checking in/out patients, and special projects as assigned
Qualifications / Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical Aesthetician license preferred
- Customer/patient service experience, preferably in a medical environment; eyecare or technician experience preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficient in computers and relevant software applications; experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Demonstrated willingness to work in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, while also accepting direction and feedback
- Commitment to quality by paying attention to detail and checking work

- Tuesday: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Wednesday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Thursday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
